Morris falters, fades to third at the finish with national title hopes on the line JW Martin
At the conclusion of the Toyota/ATK 150, the biggest story was the story that never happened.
Philip Morris was never in contention, Kelly Kingery never had enough power and Davin Scites never looked back, leading every circuit en route to his third win of the season.
“It was perfect tonight,” Scites said from victory lane. “You don’t know if your car is that good or if they’re just off, but I’ll take it as a dominating car.”
Scites posted his most commanding effort of the season Saturday night, winning from the pole and pacing a field of 25 Late Models through all 150 circuits in a race that featured only one caution. But while Scites win came as no surprise, the fact that the driver of the number 06 Champion Spark Plugs Chevrolet was uncontested throughout the event astonished all in attendance.
Ruckersville, Va., native one win closer to his second national title JW Martin
Philip Morris entered Saturday night’s Star Country 150 the points leader in both the track and national standings with eight victories.
Jerame Donley came into Motor Mile Speedway with not one start to his credit this season, wheeling a car that had only been raced competitively once. Yet Donley enrolled in the event with every intention of claiming the checkers.
Quick start leads to a fantastic finale in the Coca-Cola Twin 75’s JW Martin
One driver continued to dominate and another contender became a winner following the Coca-Cola Twin 75’s.
Philip Morris and Forrest Reynolds shared front row starting spots and first place finishes Saturday night. The pair of drivers occupied the top two starting positions in each race, with Morris capturing his eighth win of the season from the pole in the opening event. Reynolds won his first race of the season from the second starting position in the finale.
Morris expands lead to 128 points in the standings following A-1 Heating and Cooling/Star Country Twins JW Martin
Philip Morris captured his seventh victory of the season and Davin Scites claimed his second following a pair of 75 lap sprints Saturday night.
Although the duo has combined to win 98 percent of the total amount of races completed this season, neither driver had a powerhouse performance in the first contest.
It was a night that first belonged to Forrest Reynolds. Reynolds registered the number 04 on the front row for both events, with a first-ever pole effort recorded for the latter race. However, pre-race inspection revealed that the rear spoiler on Reynolds’ machine didn’t meet height requirements by three degrees, prompting officials to disallow the team’s qualifying times. Following a decision by the driver and a judgment call by the track, Reynolds would fail to record a start in either race.
CAUDILL CLAIMS VICTORY IN CIRCLE RACING WHEELS 150
UARA’s all-time win leader captures 11th career victory at MMS JW Martin
Three months following the series’ first appearance of the year at the .416-mile oval, the stars of the United Auto Racing Association were back in action at Motor Mile Speedway. While the second installment of racing was nearly identical to the first race of the season at the Radford, Va., track–seven cautions culminated in another green-white-checkered finish- the conclusion of the Circle Racing Wheels 150 yielded a different result.
